(Atlantic) Two juveniles are in custody for making threats of terrorism to Atlantic School Buildings.
Atlantic Police Chief Devin Hogue says on April 2, they received a report of a text message sent out threatening to harm an Atlantic Community School building the following day. During the investigation, law enforcement found the threat not credible, and students and staff were not in danger of attending school. However, due to the seriousness of the threat and the disruption it caused to the school, and learning environment, authorities arrested a 13-year-old juvenile on Monday for threats of terrorism. They transported the teen to the juvenile detention center.
Additionally, on Monday, the Atlantic Police Department received a report on a social media page threatening to harm an Atlantic Community School building. During the investigation, students and staff were deemed safe, and a 12-year-old juvenile was taken into custody, charged with threats of terrorism, and transported to the juvenile detention center.
The Atlantic Police Department worked alongside the Atlantic Community School District during the investigation and assisted the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Governors School Safety Bureau.
