(Updated) High school organizers across Iowa are protesting anti-LGBTQ+ legislation this week with planned walkouts. One youth-led organization says students will leave their classrooms on Wednesday, March 1. This comes as Iowa lawmakers move closer to banning gender identity from being taught to students in grades three and below. Other laws would require teachers to tell parents about their children’s gender.
