(Portland, OR) Iowa State men’s basketball is going to the finals of the Phil Knight Invitational. The Cyclones upset #1 North Carolina 70-65 on Friday.
Caleb Grill (pictured) had a career day with 31 points. Grill made 11/15 shot attempts and 7/11 from 3-point range. Jaren Holmes posted 22 points and Robert Jones scored 10.
Iowa State trailed by as many as eight in the 2nd half. The were down 60-53 with just under 4:00 to play and then used a 13-1 stretch to take command. The Cyclones are 5-0. It’s their first win against a #1 opponent since downing Oklahoma in 2016. The other was against Kansas in 1957.
ISU will play Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the tournament finals against either Alabama or UCONN.
