(Undated) MidAmerican Energy continues to explore the possibility of developing a Wind Energy Farm in southern Pottawattamie and northern Mills Counties.
Geoff Greenwood, a spokesman for MidAmerican Energy, says the company is in the exploratory stage, or Phase I of a Three Phase project.
Greenwood says land owner participation is strictly voluntary.
Greenwood says the project is in the preliminary phase. The project would consist of 90 to 140 wind turbines with an ultimate capacity of 400 megawatts.
The project could potentially serve approximately 144,000 Iowa homes. He says the number of turbines in each county is undetermined. Still, ultimately it would total about 187 million in property tax dollars for both counties over the project’s lifetime. Greenwood said the allocation is undetermined because they don’t know how many turbines would be in one county versus the other.
Greenwood says the total dollars paid to landowners during the project’s lifetime is 76-to-92-million dollars.
The next phase is the project layout, and Phase III would be construction starting in 2024 with completion at the end of 2024.
