(Harlan) Prairie Rose State Park will host a stargazing event this week.
The get together is on Thursday, December 30th at 6:30 p.m. Interested parties can meet in the West Campgrounds. “We are going to walk out on the dam so we can get away from the lights and the trees of the campground. We are going to be using my favorite toy in the world which is this green laser pointer that looks like you are touching the stars when you use it. I have to be a little bit careful of airplanes of course, but that way I can help people identify constellations and tell them stories of it.”
Shelby County Naturalist Christina Roelofs says you can see more during the winter than you can during the summer. “It has to do with the humidity that’s in the air. In the summer time we have a lot more humidity which makes it harder to see versus in the winter time we don’t have as much humidity so everything is clearer and crisper.”
If conditions are cloudy the event will be cancelled.
