(Shambaugh) Two people were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Page County Monday afternoon.
The Page County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at approximately 3:46 p.m. at Highway 71 and 4th Street in Shambaugh. The investigation showed that Dakota Allen Woodruff, 26, of Clarinda, was operating a 2007 Ford Focus and had pulled into the travelled portion of the southbound lane of Highway 71. Gary Lee Barlow, 68, of Clarinda, was operating a 2018 Honda Pilot southbound on Highway 71, north of the intersection of Highway 71 and 4th Street. Barlow saw Woodruff pulling onto Highway 71 and attempted to avoid Woodruff by braking and veering to the west, off the travelled portion of Highway 71 onto the shoulder. Woodruff stopped his vehicle in the travelled portion upon seeing Barlow’s vehicle. Barlow was unable to avoid Woodruff’s stopped vehicle due to the short distance between the two vehicles and the speed of which Barlow was travelling. Barlow’s vehicle struck Woodruff’s vehicle in the rear half of the vehicle on the driver’s side. Woodruff’s vehicle then spun around coming to rest still within the intersection. Barlow’s vehicle continued in a southwesterly direction into the ditch on the south of the intersection before coming to rest.
Woodruff and a Juvenile passenger in Barlow’s vehicle were transported to Clarinda Regional Health Center by Clarinda Ambulance Service with unknown injuries.
Woodruff was cited for failure to obey stop sign.
The Page County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Clarinda Fire Department, the Clarinda Ambulance Service, and the Page County Emergency Management.
