(Atlantic) The Conference Board will meet next week to appoint a new County Assessor. The hiring comes after former Assessor Brenda Nelson resigned this past May.
Cass County Supervisor Chairman Steve Baier says the county is fortunate to have found a qualified candidate for a position that many counties are struggling to find.
Baier says many county assessors have reached retirement age over the years, plus the state of Iowa has upped the requirements for what it takes to become an Assessor, which has created a shortage of candidates. He says currently on the Department of Revenue’s approved list; there are 95 approved candidates out of 99 Iowa counties and 15-20 municipalities that have their own assessors.
The Conference Board will meet at 5:00 p.m. at the Cass County Courthouse to appoint the new person whose name will be released when the agenda comes out.
