(Atlantic) Speaking at the Cass/Atlantic Development Corporation’s annual meeting on Wednesday, Director Jennifer McEntaffer spoke about the shortage of childcare providers and housing.
McEntaffer admitted the housing project is currently delayed because of the high cost of lumber. “We’re working with Anita Community Development for the possibility of a new build there,” said McEntaffer. “The City of Atlantic received a grant for a new housing study, and we’re also working with the Atlantic Community Development Committee for a possibility of some new housing as well.”
The other issue facing the County is childcare. McEntaffer said this is a statewide problem, especially in Cass County. “We’ve partnered with CCR & R and created a grant fund,” said McEntaffer. “We currently have $2,500 in that grant fund and disbursing that in $1,000 increments for start-up childcare providers.”
CADCO is also working with Iowa State University Extension and the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce with a “Leading Cass County.”
The CADCO members approved the following three individuals to the board on Wednesday. Peter Gray, executive director at the Heritage House in Atlantic. Pat McCurdy, who has served on the CADCO Board of Director’s for the past 13-years, and Paul Gude, President, and member of the Board of Directors of the First Whitney Bank
