(Indianola) The Simpson College Wrestling program sent out a “Commit Alert” on Twitter, referencing a trifecta of local Iowa High School top performers committing to their program. One of the members of that trifecta is Atlantic/CAM State Medal Winner Joe Weaver.
Weaver definitely left his mark in “bold print” on the Atlantic/CAM Wrestling Program. The senior graduates from the Atlantic/CAM Wrestling program as a three-time state qualifier with a career record of 168-52 ranking second-best in Atlantic/CAM wrestling program history.
This past season, the senior 126-pounder posted a 42-10 record, and won tournament individual titles at four major tournaments including; the John J. Harris, Hawkeye Ten, Sectional, and Districts, and polished off an outstanding career with a fourth-place finish at the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament.
“I visited a couple of different colleges to figure out what I wanted in a college,” said Weaver. “I wasn’t sure I wanted to wrestle. But after my senior season, I felt like I wasn’t done just yet, so I narrowed it down to two colleges.
“The State Tournament gave me a boost of confidence,” said Joe Weaver. “ I was struggling a little bit, and I didn’t think I was good enough to wrestle in college, but after having success at the state tournament, and wrestling with the best, I knew I wasn’t done just yet.”
During spring break, Weaver started searching for the institution that suited him best. “One school was far away, and the other was Simpson,” stated Weaver. “I felt like Simpson was the best decision for me. I really like the school and the Coaches.”
Joe Weaver is pursuing a career in Dentistry and will study health and exercise science with a minor in biology.
Joe is the son of Cody and Betty Weaver.
