(Atlantic) The 2020-2021 Atlantic boys’ basketball team and its’ six seniors were honored at the annual banquet in the High School Commons on Tuesday night.
The Trojans finished the season with a 14-7 record, and a share of the Hawkeye Ten Conference title. After starting the season with a 3-5 record, the Trojans won nine straight conference games and finished the year having won 11 out of their last 13 games including post-season wins over Creston and Glenwood, and a berth in the Substate finals.
Numerous awards were given out, however, the Hawkeye Ten Conference selections for both the athletic and all-academic are being withheld until they are released by Conference Officials.
With the exception of the Coaches Choice award, the other eight awards were voted on by the players. Below is the list of award winners.
Team Player Award: Awarded to the player who always put the team first, on and off the field. The winner: Craig Alan Becker.
Practice Player of the Year Award: Awarded to the player who gave it their best during practice, and by doing so, made the team better every single day: The winner: Craig Alan Becker.
Defensive Player of the Year Award: Awarded to the player who always gave 100-percent on the defensive end of the floor. Winner: Craig Alan Becker
Offensive Player of the Year Award: Awarded to the player who always did their best to create for others and finish on opportunities. Winner: Skyler Handlos
Coaches Choice Award: Awarded to the two players whose coachability, effort, and attitude are unmatched. Winners: Ethan Sturm and Ethan Williams.
Players Choice Award: Awarded to the player who has won the respect of their teammates through their character shown on and off the court. Winner: Craig Alan Becker
Most Improved Player: Awarded to the player whose improvements from the past season were most notable. Winner: Ethan Williams
Heart Award: Awarded to the player who continuously fought for success regardless of the situation. Winner: Craig Alan Becker
Trojan Award: Awarded to the player who demanded greatness from himself and his teammates. Winner: Skyler Handlos.
