(Atlantic) Atlantic and Cherokee, Washington square off in a Class 2A Regional semi-final girls’ basketball on Wednesday at Cherokee.
The (9-13) Trojans advanced with a 65-29 win over Greene County. The (20-0), Braves ranked number #1 in Class 3A, topped Kuemper, Catholic, Carroll, 77-40.
Cherokee averages just shy of 70-points per game while allowing their opponents an average of 40-points per contest.
Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says Cherokee plays pressure defense on all areas of the floor.
Vargason says Cherokee isn’t afraid to let the long-range shot fly. The Braves are 140/441 from behind the three-point line. Three players average in double-figures. JeMae Nichols averages 14.5, Alexis Pingel, 12.5, and Kenna Morgan, 11.9.
Coach Vargason says his team will need to control the pace if they want to stay in the game. Vargason, says one key for the Trojans is getting back on transition defense.
The Trojans average 58-points per game while allowing the opposition an average of 52.1 points per contest. Haley Rasmussen leads the team in scoring with 21.2-points per outing, Jada Jensen 10.7, and Maycie Waters and Tessa Grooms 6.0-points per game.
