(Des Moines) A storm system is heading into the region Friday and the weekend.
Roger Vachalek, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, says a storm system dropping south from Canada and another portion of it coming up from the southwest could combine to bring the possibility of snow late Friday and to end late Saturday afternoon or early Saturday evening. “At this point, we think that we will get two inches of snow or a little bit more across the southern portion of the state,” said Vachalek. “There is still some uncertainty as far as the exact track of this storm system. The models show the storm wavering in its development.”
Vachalek says it doesn’t take a lot of snow to cause hazardous travel conditions. “Even if we don’t get two or three inches out of this storm, motorists should practice their winter driving skills once the snow starts to accumulate,” said Vachalek.
Vachalek says once the snow leaves the region, temperatures will hold into the mid-thirties early next week, which is not a big cool down, but certainly a lot chillier than what it has been.
