(Atlantic) Atlantic hosts Clarinda at a neutral site this Friday night. The newly renovated Trojan Bowl is not yet complete, and Clarinda’s new field is not quite ready for play either, so the teams are traveling to Glenwood’s facility to play this Class 2A District 9 football game.
Clarinda enters the contest with a 1-2 record, and 1-0 in district play with a 49-6 win over Red Oak in their district opener last week. The Trojans head into week four with a 2-1 record with back-to-back wins over Kuemper and Greene County.
The Trojans running game is coming of age with the solid play from the offensive line and running ability of Bodie Johnson and Korey Parrott. Johnson rushed for 107 yards last week and leads the team with 180 yards. Parrott has 36 carries for 155 yards.
Atlantic Head Coach Mike McDermott while pleased with the running game is stressing the aerial attack this week in practice.
The Trojans passing game showed some promise last week despite the damp playing conditions. Caden Andersen connected with senior receiver Colin Mullenix on a couple of key situations. Mullenix leads the receiving corps with 10 catches for 177 yards.
Coach McDermott isn’t abandoning the running game; he just wants another option on third and long situations.
Clarinda is guided by sophomore quarterback Wyatt Schmitt who is 28-for-56 throwing the ball for 401 yards, and four touchdowns. Coach McDermott is impressed with the young QB, and the Cardinals down linemen.
Coach McDermott says the game will come down to turnovers, penalties, and field position.
We will have the broadcast on 95.7 FM and KS957.com.
