(Atlantic) Produce in the Park is looking for volunteers to help encourage healthy eating by serving as Fresh Produce Samplers or Guest Chefs during this year’s farmers market in Atlantic.
According to the CDC, fewer than 10 percent of Iowans eat enough vegetables each day. Produce in the Park hopes to help change that by offering free produce samples and recipe demonstrations featuring fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables.
Fresh Produce Samplers hand out free samples to market visitors, while Guest Chefs prepare simple recipes using produce available from market vendors. Organizers say popular recipes are often the easiest to make, and all ingredients are provided free of charge.
Volunteers serve on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. through the end of September at Atlantic City Park. The effort supports the Cass County Community Health Improvement Plan by increasing access to affordable, healthy foods.
Produce in the Park is free and open to the public. The market accepts SNAP/EBT, SUN Bucks and Double Up Food Bucks.
To volunteer as a Fresh Produce Sampler or Guest Chef, contact Market Manager Ciara Hoegh at 712-249-5870 or email produceintheparkatlanticiowa@gmail.com.
