(Audubon) Audubon takes to the road for the first time this season on Friday night. The #2 rated Wheelers roll into West Harrison, averaging 50 points through their first two outings while allowing just six points.
Audubon Head Coach Sean Birks says this team is a pleasant surprise for a lot of people. Birks noted the coaching staff felt this crew had potential, but it’s always hard to tell in the preseason, especially this season, with modified workouts due to the virus. With six players lost to graduation, there were a few question marks.
Coach Birks knew what they had in quarterback Gavin Smith, and he’s been as good as advertised, completing 70-percent of his passes and rushing for 226-yards for a nine-yard per carry average. The staff knew what they had in Joel and Ethan Klocke, but the question was how good everyone around them would be.
Coach Birks notes West Harrison is a different team than in years past. After falling to a quality Woodbine team in Week One. The Hawkeyes bounced back last week against Glidden-Ralston and posted a come from behind 56-44 victory.
Grant and Gabe Gilgren lead the Hawkeyes running attack. Gabe leads the team in rushing with 267 yards, and Grant has 48 carries for 139 yards.
The game starts at 7:00 p.m.
