(Atlantic) Atlantic is hanging their had on an experienced defense early in the season. The Trojans travel to Underwood Friday for a non-district contest. The Trojans return nine of 11 starters on the defensive side of the football.
The Trojans return Defensive Back Colin Mullenix, who led the team in tackles one-year ago, along with Joe Weaver, Grant Sturm, and Zane Vance. Ethan Sturm steps into a linebacker position and joins veterans Bodie Johnson, and Brendan Atkinson. Steele McLaren is a returning starter on the D-line along with Gunner Kirchhoff, and ends, Cael Pulido and Beau Dickerson.
The Trojans return starting quarterback Garrett McLaren, according to Coach McDermott, McLaren will share duties with sophomore Caden Andersen.
Colin Mullenix and Bodie Johnson start in the offensive backfield, Grant Sturm and Joe Weaver at the receiver positions, Garrett Reynolds at tight end, and the offensive line consists of Drey Newell, Gunner Kirchhoff, Brenden Casey, Peyton Fewson, and Hunter Weppler. Devin McKay and Noah VandeVanter will figure in the mix as well.
Coach McDermott says it will be a battle between Underwood’s potent offense and Atlantic’s veteran defense.
Dayton Templeton will handle the punting duties, and Lane Nelson is the kicker. We will have the broadcast on 95.7 FM; pre-game starts at 6:00 p.m., Kick-off at 7:00 p.m.
