(Atlantic) For more than 20 years, the Christmas Box Program has brought the spirit of giving to families and individuals across Cass County, providing the ingredients for a Christmas dinner and a reminder that their community cares.
The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Hy-Vee, is proud to continue this holiday tradition and is now accepting nominations for individuals and families who could benefit from a Christmas Box this season.
Originally started by West Central Community Action more than two decades ago, the program has been carried forward by several community organizations and countless volunteers, all sharing the same goal of making the holidays a little brighter for those in need.
Kelsey Beschorner, Executive Director of the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce said last year, the program provided Christmas dinners to 140 individuals and families throughout Cass County. With the rising cost of groceries and everyday expenses, organizers anticipate another year of significant need.
Each Christmas Box includes food items to help recipients prepare a traditional Christmas dinner at home. On Thursday, December 10th, Chamber representatives and community volunteers will gather to pack and deliver the boxes to nominated households throughout Cass County.
Community members are encouraged to nominate families or individuals who may benefit from a Christmas Box, including themselves. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, December 4th. Donations and volunteers are also welcome to help ensure the program can continue reaching those who need it most.
