(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC Cross Country has a new Head Coach this year but nothing seems to be a distraction to Preston Kent. In the first two meets of the year, the Senior has won them both including Tuesday’s 2 mile race at Woodward Granger which was cut because of the heat. Head Coach Gabe Soda says Kent has put in the work and it is paying off early this season
Kent is one of four seniors for the Chargers with Jonny Kading, Cameron Mozingo, and Jameson Pfrang the others. Junior Ryne Noland and Sophomore Bryce Breda are pushing those guys and Soda is real impressed with Freshman Carver Johnston who is pushing everybody.
The girls have not qualified as a team but they will when everybody comes together. Freshman Camdyn Coffman had the low time for AC/GC in the first meet and 8th grader Vivian Crawford finished third on Tuesday in Woodward in her first ever varsity race. Crawford was the only runner out in Junior High so with the new rule, she can now compete at the Varsity High School.
Meanwhile, Soda is glad for Seniors Cadence and Brooklyn Scafer’s leadership
This is Soda’s first coaching experience — he ran at Madrid and at Cornell College. He got some coaching experience at Madrid last year
AC/GC’s next meet is next Thursday at the Iowa St. course hosted by Gilbert
