(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Tuesday approving and assessing the costs of the City/School Election held on November 4.
Board Chair Steve Baier read the resolution, which stated that, pursuant to Iowa Code, the costs of conducting city, school district and other political subdivision elections must be paid by the political subdivision for which the election is held.
The county auditor is now directed to forward a copy of the resolution, along with an official billing statement, to the city clerk and/or school board secretary of each respective entity for prompt payment.
In other business, the supervisors heard from Environmental Health Director Jotham Arber, who discussed proposed updates to environmental health rates.
Arber explained that it has been some time since the rates were last updated. Based on a cost analysis that considered the total number of hours required, employee wages, and the costs of fuel, equipment, and other expenses, the department is recommending several increases.
The proposed changes include increasing soil analysis and perc tests from $350 to $400; septic permits from $225 to $250; well permits from $200 to $225; repair permits from $125 to $150; and time-of-transfer inspections from $325 to $350.
Arber noted that anyone who has already scheduled a perc test or soil analysis for this season would not be affected by the proposed rate increases.
No action was taken Tuesday, as the updated rates were presented to the board for consideration. The supervisors said the proposal will be placed on the next agenda for approval, with the new rates potentially taking effect January 1.
