(Atlantic, IA) — Iowa Republican Gubernatorial candidate Zach Lahn made a stop in Atlantic on Tuesday afternoon and spoke to a group of about 70 people. He spoke for 40 minutes and talked at length about his background from Hinton, IA and growing up in Northwest Iowa — he went to Sioux City East High School then to Iowa Central in Fort Dodge and got his degree at the University of Colorado. He admittedly left the state for a time but came back to buy the family farm. His campaign slogan is “Iowa First” and he says his Democratic opponent Rob Sand criticizes him for his time outside of Iowa
Lahn says there are four fundamental issues that he is addressing in his campaign: preserving and increasing the population of Iowa, improving the education of Iowans, preserving the Iowa family farms, and keeping Iowans healthy in many areas. He says if he is elected governor, one of the first things he will do is address the cancer levels in the state of which Cass County has the highest rate of cancer of any county
On Tuesday, Iowa PBS announced it will host a 90 minute debate without a studio audience on Wednesday, October 21 at 7 pm. Lahn says he was hoping for a 2 hour Lincoln-Douglas debate with no moderator but that was not agreed to. He says he will take what he can get
At the end of his presentation, the Cass County Republicans donated $1,000 to his campaign.
