(Ames, IA) — Iowa St. has a ton of newcomers but Drew Surges did not leave Ames and has stayed with two seasons of eligibility remaining. Last year as a Sophomore, Surges played in all 12 games and started in three of them. He made 26 tackles, including 2.5 for a loss; had two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Surges is excited to play for the new coaching staff
Surges is 6-1, 203 pounds out of Chicago and made his first start as a true freshman in 2023 in the snow against Kansas St.
2024 was a lost season for Surges dealing with injuries and now will be counted on to be a leader on defense for Iowa St. Surges is expected to start at Strong Safety with Redshirt Freshman Damarius Russell, a transfer from Washington St., pushing him on the depth start. Senior transfer from Montana Micah Harper will be the free safety with another transfer from Washington Senior Duhron Goodman as the backup.
Surges says the safeties have bonded really quick
Iowa St. opens their season this Saturday hosting Southeast Missouri; Kickoff at Noon with the Cyclone Pre Game at 10 am on KSOM.
