(Greenfield, IA) — Just when you thought the game of conference shuffle board is over, think again. Nodaway Valley is planning on leaving the Pride of Iowa Conference will be joining the West Central Activities Conference.
The Nodaway Valley School Board has already voted to approve the move and the West Central has accepted the Wolverines into its conference. The only question is when it will happen. According to Nodaway Valley Athletic Director Sara Honnold, the Pride of Iowa must vote unanimously to leave and the Iowa Conference Realignment Committee will fast track the move to the 2027/28 school year. If that does not happen, the move would happen in the 2028/29 school year.
When Nodaway Valley leaves, the Pride of Iowa will be down to just seven members: Central Decatur, East Union, Lenox, Mount Ayr, Southeast Warren, Southwest Valley and Wayne. Martensdale St. Mary’s has left the POI and will join the WCAC this coming school year. Bedford left the POI two years ago and is now in the Corner Conference.
The West Central lost two members — Des Moines Christian left for the Little Hawkeye and Woodward Granger left for the Heart of Iowa Conference. Membership in the WCAC this school year include AC/GC, Earlham, Interstate 35, Madrid, Martensdale St. Mary’s, Ogden, Panorama, Pleasantville, Van Meter and West Central Valley. This will be the last year for Van Meter in the conference — they are leaving for the Raccoon River in 2027-28.
