(Avoca, IA) — AHSTW Baseball took a major step forward this year with a 15-10 record which is an 11 win improvement and made it to the District Finals. Head Coach Trey Brix knew the Vikings had talent but admitted they would get so good so quickly but many of the players came to him during the winter wanting to get better and Brix and his staff laid it all out on what needed to get done
It was not a perfect season for the Vikings but Brix says that they stayed away from losing streaks and it was rare for them to lose on two nights in a row
AHSTW lived by their pitching and defense. The fielding percentage was .934 which was only behind Logan Magnolia and Underwood. Sophomore Camdyn Dresen, Freshman Kip Lamp, 8th grader Taylen Hansen and Junior Sage Blotzer anchored a deep pitching staff and they are all coming back next season. Brix says they still have to be better at throwing strikes
Brix says he has some roster flexibility to replace his Seniors — C Cash Freeman, CF Ty Nelson, 1B Calvin Parker and 2B Chase Wheatley.
