(Des Moines) The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa dropped 12 cents this week to $3.66 per gallon, according to AAA.
Crude oil prices also declined significantly.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $13.84 per barrel to $76.59, while Brent crude dropped $13.57 to $79.40 per barrel. One year ago, WTI was priced at $75.62 per barrel, and Brent crude averaged $78.70.
Gasoline prices across Iowa are now 66 cents higher than they were a year ago, despite this week’s decline. Nationally, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline fell 12 cents to $4.03 per gallon.
Diesel prices in Iowa also fell 13 cents this week to a statewide average of $4.74 per gallon. A year ago, diesel averaged $3.46 per gallon in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel price remains 42 cents below the national average of $5.16.
At the Des Moines terminal, current rack prices are $2.56 per gallon for U87-E10, $3.17 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $3.14 for ULSD #2, $3.34 for ULSD #1, and $2.27 for E-70.
Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub reporting site declined 5 cents this week and are currently $3.17 per MMBtu.
Retail heating oil and propane prices for Iowa will resume in October.
