(Oakland, IA) — Riverside will host Southwest Valley in their Homecoming football game this Friday.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 27-8 win over AHSTW in a breakout game for Sophomore Running Back Mason Houser — 34 carries for 336 yards and 4 TD. While Houser had a big game, Cole Jeppesen who tends to eat yards for breakfast, lunch and dinner had just 14 yards on offense. Not what everybody was expecting and Bulldogs Head Coach Tyler Johannsen says that is a good thing because it shows Riverside can beat you in different ways
On defense, D-Ends Grant Richardson and Lucas Manzer both had big games — Manzer had 3.5 tackles with 1 for a loss while Richardson had 6.5 tackles and 1.5 for a loss. Johannsen says in their defensive scheme, the ends are not expected to make tackles
In the middle there is Nose Guard Hayden Trumbauer who does a lot of dirty work to clog the middle and does not get enough credit
Riverside is facing a Southwest Valley team that is coming off a bye week — the Timberwolves have their own dual threat in QB Wyatt Shires and RB Walker Bissell
Southwest Valley spent the off week getting themselves healthy after losing in the heat in Guthrie Center 20-7 to AC/GC. Timberwolves Head Coach Keegan Longabaugh says the bye came at the right time
Longabaugh says his defense has really played well — they only allowed one long sustaining drive against the Chargers and he says they have played physical
Longabaugh says Riverside has threats — Houser, Amdor and Jeppesen
Its a battle in Class A, District 7 as 2-1 Southwest Valley visits 3-1 Riverside.
