(Des Moines) The National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 11:00 a.m. for most of Iowa, including Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, and Guthrie Counties.
These thunderstorms are expected to move into eastern Iowa this Wednesday morning. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued for portions of north central Iowa this morning. The main threats associated with these storms include large hail and damaging winds. It is crucial for local residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
The weather pattern isn’t expected to settle after the initial storm. This (Wednesday) afternoon may bring a redeployment of thunderstorms across the eastern half of Iowa. With conditions ripe for severe weather, very large hail and damaging winds are again anticipated, with the possibility of tornado activity as well.
In addition to the severe storms, strong winds will also be a factor today. Residents in southern Iowa can expect gusts of 30 to 40 mph or even stronger at times ahead of the storms.
Once the storms pass through northern, central, and eastern Iowa, similar strong winds are predicted to continue behind the storm front. As these developments occur, it’s important to stay updated through local weather services and to have a safety plan in place. Keep alert, stay safe, and pay close attention to weather updates as the situation evolves.
