(Atlantic) During Wednesday’s City Council meeting, Atlantic Mayor Rob Clausen announced Phase 2 of the Community-Wide Cleanup Project and praised Public Works Director Kirk Knudsen and city crews for their swift response in clearing storm damage caused by the severe weather that moved through Atlantic on June 11.
The Mayor says they got the streets cleared quickly, repaired the stoplights on Poplar Street and Hospital Drive, and are now waiting for parts for the damaged stoplight at 7th and Plum Street, which was struck by lightning a week earlier. He says the most important thing was keeping the compost pile fully staffed to keep the growing tree pile stacked up and burning to get rid of the debris.
Additionally, Mayor Clausen stated Phase #2 of the community-wide clean-up project is set to begin on Monday, June 22. Clausen says the city will have roll-off dumpsters at three different locations around town. Clausen says each location will have two dumpsters. One will be for the general junk and garbage, and the other will be for the metal and recyclables.
The roll-off dumpsters will be located at 811 McDermott Roofing at 811 Sunnyside, 611 Walnut Street, and 1500 East 7th Street, the former location of the Pines Restaurant. Clausen says residents will be required to bring their stuff to the dumpster locations.
The following items are not allowed: TVs, appliances, chemicals of any kind, tires, electronics, and yard waste.
The Mayor says the city is covering the dump fees, so there is no cost to the residents.
