(Griswold, IA) — Sam Sanchez deliver a go ahead 2 run double in the top of the 7th inning as Fremont Mills rallied for a 7-3 win at Griswold in a Corner Conference baseball game on Monday night.
Errors would contribute to runs on both sides.
Fremont Mills took advantage of a Tiger miscue in the top of the 3rd — with two outs, Sanchez would reach on an error and Broden Zimmerman was hit by a pitch by Griswold starter Kolbe Klindt. Evan Laumann followed with a RBI single and Rowen Howe got a RBI base hit to make it 2-0 Knights.
The Tigers came back in the bottom of the 3rd — Brayden Lockwood and Grayson Smith back to back leadoff singles and Klindt was hit a by a pitch from Fremont Mills starter Rhett Lemonds. Calden Turner then blooped in a single to score Lockwood. Lemonds got the next two outs but walked Cavyn Turner with the bases loaded to score Smith to tie the game at 2-2.
Griswold took the lead in the bottom of the 5th, taking advantage of a Knight error. With one, Calden Turner reached base on a ground ball miscue; after Jaxon Eilts flew out, Nollan Smith reached on an infield single and Cavyn Turner single to load the bases. That was it for Lemonds and Laumann came in from third base to pitch. He struggled with his control and walked Brayden Beck to force in Calden Turner — Laumann recovered to get a strike out to end the inning but the Tigers led 3-2.
Klindt would hit the first two batters to start the top of the 6th but Chance Carver hit a pop out, Howe was thrown out trying to steal third and Cartter Rycoft grounded out to end the threat.
In the bottom of the 6th, Lockwood reached on an error to lead it off, Smith sacrificed him to 2nd and Klindt singled, then stole 2nd. With runners at 2nd and 3rd, Calden Turner hit a fly ball to right, Carver made the catch and made a great throw home and Crom tagged out Lockwood for a double play.
That set the stage for Fremont Mills in the top of the 7th — Gavin Crom started the comeback with a single to left, Colin Morse got an infield single on the third base line bringing up Sanchez who hammered the ball to the alley in left center and it fell in for a hit scoring both Crom and Morse to make it 4-3 Knights. Fremont Mills would score three more runs on two Tiger errors, a wild pitch and a bases loaded walk.
Isaak Hughes came in to pitch for Fremont Mills but Eilts would start the Tigers bottom of the 7th with a double; Nollan Smith walked and the runners advanced on a wild pitch. Hughes would get a strikeout but Brayden Beck walked to load the bases with one out. Hughes would recover to strike out the next two hitters to end the game.
