(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa High School Track and Field meet took a break on Saturday to honor its past and former Atlantic Girls Track and Field Head Coach Bruce Henderson was awarded the IGHSAU Golden Plaque of Distinction.
Henderson began his teaching career in Atlantic in 1970 and starting coaching girls track in 1973 and during 39 years, won seven state titles. He is currently tied for the most team championships by a head coach. He also was runner up three times and three times finished third. Henderson coached 27 individual state title winners, 17 state relay titles and winners at the Drake Relays.

Henderson and his wife Gail are both retired and still live in Atlantic while wintering in Texas — Henderson continues to be an active volunteer in the Atlantic track programs and the school hosts the Bruce Henderson Track Meet annually.
