(Oakland, IA) — The Western Iowa Conference golf meet is coming this Wednesday and Junior James McCready of Riverside will be trying to repeat as champion.
So far this season, the Bulldogs have had seven dual matches and McCready has won five of them. He currently ranks first in the WIC in 18 hole average at 78.5 and is the only one in the conference to break 80. McCready is dedicated to golf so much so that during the cold Iowa winters he finds a way to work on his game
McCready says he likes to play golf every day — sometimes he will just grab some balls and come to the course and work on his putting. He says he was not hooked to the game instantly; he grew into it just as he was going into high school
His family are not serious golfers — his Mom was a state champion high jumper in Oregon and she came to college to Graceland University in Lamoni where she met McCready’s Dad. He still has family back west including his Grandma who follows his golfing career intently
McCready won the conference meet last year by two strokes at Nishna Hills in Atlantic — they are going back on Wednesday but down the line if McCready wants to go to state, he needs to eliminate the one or two bad holes that brings his round down
Riverside will have a duel with Treynor today at Oakland Country Club.
