Iowa City Police Department Provides Updates on Sunday’s Downtown Shooting, One Still In Critical Condition, Persons Of Interest Identified
(Iowa City, IA) — The Iowa City Police Department says it has identified multiple persons of interest in Sunday morning’s downtown shooting. The shooting injured five people — one is still in critical condition, two are stable, and two are no longer hospitalized. Investigators say they are following a number of leads, and are still looking for the identity of one person of interest. Surveillance photos of the individual are posted on the Iowa City Public Safety Facebook Page. The police department is also asking Downtown Iowa City businesses to turn in surveillance footage from between 1 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. Sunday. Anyone with cell phone videos from the Pedestrian Mall during the same time period is also encouraged to turn them in.
Governor Reynolds Issues Disaster Proclamation for Five Counties
(Iowa) — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for five Iowa counties in the aftermath of severe weather last week. The proclamation is for Carroll, Crawford, Grundy, Harrison, and Washington Counties. The governor’s office says the proclamation is in response to severe weather in those counties on April 13th. The proclamation activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program for those counties and allows for additional state resources to be used in recovery efforts. The proclamation will be in effect for 30 days unless terminated early or extended.
Victims Of Violent Crime In Iowa Armed With Status Of Protective Orders
(Iowa) — Victims of violent crime in Iowa will be notified about the status of protective orders. The Iowa Vine program already lets crime victims know about the custody status of their offenders. Now the program is being used to notify victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence about the status of civil protection orders. The Protective Order notification system can be accessed online.
Iowa Supreme Court Denies Auditor’s Request For Davenport Recordings
(Davenport, IA) — The Iowa Supreme Court is overruling a lower court decision to let Iowa’s State Auditor have access to a recording of a closed-door meeting of Davenport City Council with the city attorney. Rob Sand’s office wanted access to the recording as part of an investigation into two-million-dollars in settlement payments made to former city employees three years ago without a public meeting. The Court says client-attorney privilege limits the auditor’s investigative powers.
Senator Chuck Grassley Underwent Gallstone Procedure
(Iowa) — U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is on the mend after having a procedure over the weekend to remove gallstones. The 92 year old made the announcement on social media. Grassley is the sixth-longest-serving senator in U.S. history. He has not yet announced if he will run for a ninth term in 2028.
