(Lincoln, NE) — Nebraska lost Berke Buyuktuncel in the portal but found a new big man this weekend with the addition of Boden Kapke from Boston College.
Kapke is a 6’11” center from Victoria, MN who played 31 games and started 17 for the Golden Eagles last season, averaging 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. The Cornhuskers will be Kapke’s third team after playing his first two seasons at Butler. He will have one season of eligibilty remaining.
Kapke is the 4th addition for the Huskers in the portal after adding Kadyn Betts, Sam Orme and Trevan Leonhardt while three players have left — Buyuktuncel, Justin Boils, and Quentin Rhymes. Nebraska is still waiting on the status of Ugnius Jarusevius who is seeking a medical waiver for an additional season after only playing in one game in 2025.
Right now, the Nebraska projected starting five would be Pryce Sandfort, Braden Frager, Orme, Leonhardt and Kapke. Another player in the mix could be Connor Essegian who missed the bulk of last season because of an injury. Plus add in returners Cale Jacobsen, Will Cooper, Leo Curtis, and Henry Burt and the transfer Betts and two incoming freshmen Collin Rice and Jacob Lanier. That still leaves 1 or 2 more players short of a full roster depending on Jarusevius.
