(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC will be sending six wrestlers to the Class 1A state wrestling tournament which begins on Thursday. Seniors Ryder Cline and Carter Richter are back at the tournament for the third year in a row — Cline is 2-4 so far at state and is 40-4 this season and is the #4 seed at 150 pounds. Richter has not won at state yet (0-4) and is 40-5 this season and is the the #11 seed at 215 pounds. Senior Jack Sheeder is back at state for the 2nd year in a row — las year Sheeder went 0-2 and he is the 16 seed at 285 with a 36-12 record.
Senior Charlie Christensen is going to state for the first time — the 144 pounder is an 11 seed with a 35-12 record. He missed all of last season with an injury so he kind of flew under the radar — Chargers Head Coach Lane Rumelhart
Also, Senior Chase Slaybaugh is the 18 seed at 120 pounds and is 34-11. Finally Sophomore Lane Stringer is the 21 seed at 157 pounds and is 22-12. Both will make their first trip to state. Rumelhart says the goal this week is to have fun
The boys state wrestling tournament starts tonight with Class 3A first and 2nd round. AC/GC and other Class 1A schools will hit the mat Thursday morning with the first round at 9 am — coverage from the Casey’s Center on KSOM.
