(Cass Co.) The Cass County Board of Supervisors held their organizational meeting of the new year this morning.
The Board re-elected Steve Baier as Chairman and Mark O’Brien as Vice-Chair. They will continue to meet on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. with Zoom available.
The Supervisors named the Anita Tribune, Atlantic News Telegraph and Griswold American as the official newspapers; set the mileage reimbursement rate at 72-cents; and set the medical examiner fees at the same rate as last year. The 2026 Holiday closures at the courthouse will be the same as 2025. The courthouse will be open regular hours on Christmas Eve.
Other yearly items approved by the board include: the County’s Investment Policy; authorizing the county officials to destroy records in their possession which have been on file for 10 or more years and are not required as permanent records; a resolution on the Livestock Facility Construction Evaluation and use of the Master Matrix; authorizing the County Auditor to Issue Warrants; authorizing the County Engineer to Close Secondary Roads; appointments to numerous committees; and the appointment of Dennis Vogl as Weed Commissioner.
In other action, the Supervisors approved joining the National Association of Counties in 2026 with a $450 fee. The Iowa Department of Administrative Services lease at 601 Walnut Street was approved. And, the board approved a letter of support for Cass Health’s grant application for a PET CT machine.
