(Atlantic, IA) — Recently, Iowa Republican Governor candidate Brad Sherman stopped by KSOM/KS 95 as part of his 99 county tour and talked about various issues. Sherman says the biggest issue on the mind of Iowans is property tax reform. Governor Kim Reynolds has developed a plan for the legislature to consider when they go into session in January. Sherman did not comment on her plan but did say there is no simple answer to fix it
Sherman does not believe you can get rid of property taxes completely. He says they can get under control by controlling spending. He also says that seniors should not lose their homes because they cannot pay property taxes.
Another issue is TIF funding — tax increment funding. The town of Massena has used TIF money from 32 wind turbines to generate funds. Sherman does not seem to be in favor of continuing it
Once in office, Sherman would like to emphasize a strong history curriculum in Iowa’s schools
Sherman was in Cass County, Audubon County, Carroll County and Greene County last Thursday.
