(Atlantic) Makenna Schroeder hit a three-point shot with just seconds left in regulation, sending the game into overtime as Atlantic defeated Creston 54-51 on Friday night.
Creston started strong, with Kadley Bailey leading the way as they took a 14-10 lead in the first quarter and a 23-17 advantage at halftime, thanks to Bailey’s 15 points. However, the Trojans came out strong in the second half, going on an 8-3 run. Jillian Saathoff made a crucial three-point basket midway through the third quarter, giving the Trojans a 28-26 lead. The Panthers ended the quarter with a 30-29 edge.
As time was running out, it seemed like the Panthers would secure the win. However, Atlantic’s senior Makenna Schroeder launched a long three-pointer from the top of the key, tying the game at 47 and forcing overtime.
In the overtime period, the Trojans began with a 5-0 run. Makenna Schroeder hit another important three-point shot, and Zoey Kirchhoff calmly sank two free throws to seal the 54-51 victory.
Kirchhoff led the Trojans with 15 points, while Schroeder added 12 and Katrina Williams contributed 11, including a crucial close-range shot in overtime. Brynn Lamp scored 6 points, Peyton McLaren had 4, Saathoff chipped in 3, and Maddie McLaren finished with 2. Kadley Bailey was the standout for the Panthers with 28 points, followed by Brynn Tussey with 7 points, and both Ella Turner and Hollynn Rieck with 6 points each. Braylee Pokorny contributed 4 points. With this win, Atlantic has now won three straight games, improving its record to 4-2, while Creston falls to 3-3
