(Des Moines) The price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa fell by 5 cents this week, averaging $2.76 per gallon, according to AAA. This marks a modest decline from both last week’s price and the price from one year ago.
Nationally, the average price for regular unleaded remained steady at $3.08 per gallon.
In contrast, diesel prices in Iowa rose sharply, climbing 17 cents to a statewide average of $3.76 per gallon, matching the national average. A year ago, diesel averaged $3.31 per gallon in the state.
Crude oil prices also softened this week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped $1.40 per barrel to $58.76, while Brent crude decreased by $1.06 to $62.99. One year ago, WTI was priced at $68.43 per barrel and Brent at $72.56, indicating a significant easing in global crude prices over the past year.
Heating fuel prices showed mixed movement this week. Natural gas prices at the Henry Hub rose 23 cents to $4.50 per million British thermal units (MMbtu). Propane prices averaged $1.53 per gallon across Iowa, while home heating oil averaged $3.27 per gallon statewide.
