(Fort Dodge, IA) — The Riverside Boys Cross Country team were the favorites at the 1A State Meet and they did not disappoint. The Bulldogs took home their first cross country title in school history, placing 4 runners in the top 15 and won the title by 15 points over Lake Mills. Senior Dawson Henderson finished in 5th place (16:25.8), Junior Owen Fenner was 11th (16:40.8); Sophomore Eli Hudnall ran a PR time of 16:44.4 and was 13th; Senior Brody Henderson got on the deck in 14th (16:45.5).
Rounding out the Bulldogs team was Cruz Jacquez in 22nd; James McCready in 78th and Trig Drahota in 118th.
Sophomore Haven Weers of Tri Center finished in 4th place at 16:11.2. David Nichols of Earlham got on the deck in 8th (16:37.1) and Dane Gorham of Boyer Valley was all-state in 9th (16:38.8). The 1A individual champ was Hugh Conway of South Winneshiek with a PR time of 15:50.7. Hayden Thompson of Lake Mills was 2nd and Knute Rogne of Lake Mills finished 3rd.
Riverside had 54 points, Lake Mills 69 and Ankeny Christian 3rd with 124. Earlham was 4th with 150.
Nodaway Valley was 16 out of 16 teams with no seniors — Sophomore Gabe Winkelmann had the best finish for the Wolverines in 36th place (17:17.0).
Preston Kent of AC/GC had a solid race finishing in 28th place (17:06.2). Jacob Sporrer of Logan Magnolia was 27th (17:05.7). There were 152 runners in the field.
