(Fort Dodge, IA) — Mason Betts of Atlantic ran a strong race and finished 39th at the Class 3A Boys State Cross Country Meet. The sophomore ran the course in a time of 16:51.2 and finished his first ever cross country season.
Jeffrey Gross of Harlan finished in 50th place at 17:02.2.
At the front of the pack, Quentin Nauman won his 2nd straight state title but had to escape from a crowded pack. At the 2M mark, Caleb Ten Pas of Des Moines Christian led Nauman by .2 seconds with Canaan Dunham of Pella third .4 seconds behind and Logan Bleich of Gilbert 4th only .7 seconds behind. Nauman got away from the pack and won with a time of 14:48.3 which is 8 seconds faster than last year. Dunham was 2nd at 15:02.9, Ten Pas 3rd at 15:18.4 and Bliech 4th at 15:31.9.
Gilbert won the team title with 71 points; Mt Vernon Lisbon 2nd at 101 and Pella 3rd at 109.
