(Harlan, IA) — Harlan will sending a strong contingent to Fort Dodge for the 3A state cross country meet. Junior Jeffrey Gross has qualified individually — Head Coach Zach Klassen says he ran through injuries all of last year. Klassen has a lot of respect for Gross who had ankle and foot pain and finally got healthy last winter in time for track season last spring. Klassen expects he will run a strong race on Friday
On the girls side, the Cyclones are ranked 12th in Class 3A and Sophomore Ashlyn Rau has a good chance of standing on the deck — the top 15 runners earn all state honors. Klassen says Rau just missed the deck last year and is motivated to run well
Freshman Julia Heslink has been a standout for Harlan this year
The top three teams get on the deck and Pella is the favorite in Class 3A. Klassen is hoping their finish is better than expected though
The 3A girls race is at 2 pm Friday; the 3A boys race is at 2:45.
