(Underwood, IA) — Underwood football dismantled South Central Calhoun last Friday 54-8 in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. Garrett Luett threw for 229 yards and 6 TD; Kyle Sub had 5 catches for 101 yards and 3 scores. Ryker Adair had 8 catches for 77 yards and a TD. Eagles Head Coach Nate Mechaelsen says it was one of the best games his team has played
Luett is going to pass Alex Ravlin as Underwood’s all time leader in passing yards and passing TDs — ironic since Luett succeeded Ravlin as quarterback in 2023. Right now, Luett has thrown 6,916 total yards which is only 25 behind Ravlin and Luett has 79 TD passes only 1 behind Ravlin. Only 22 quarterbacks have thrown for 7,000 yards and more. Mechealsen says Luett played a real special game last Friday
This week Underwood has to go on the road to play West Marshall in the 2nd round. State Center is 158 miles from Underwood — just west of Marshalltown. That means a bus ride of 2 and a half hours but Mechaelsen does not see a problem
Underwood and West Marshall are both 7-2, the winner will play the winner of Lawton Bronson and West Lyon.
