(Atlantic) The Atlantic Trojan football team is preparing for a postseason matchup with Bishop-Heelan this week. Head Coach Joe Brummer says being one of the final 16 teams standing in Class 3A is the result of his players’ hard work.
The Trojans are 6-3, and Bishop-Heelan is 7-2. Coach Brummer says Bishop-Heelan is a traditional Heelan football team, big upfront, Physical, and has a good running back in Kasen Thomas, who has rushed for 1,076 yards, averages 6.6 yards per carry, and scored 19 touchdowns.
Coach Brummer says the Crusaders run a defense similar to Creston’s.
Coach Brummer noted they pulled up some old film from last year’s game against Carroll, and Heelan loaded the front line with six players. He says they are going to prepare for a multitude of things, but expects to see a lot of guys in the box.
The Trojans bring a heavy dose of run to the game on Friday night with 2,076 rushing yards and 641 passing. Coach Brummer admits that they will have to be two-dimensional on offense heading into Friday’s first-round match.
The Trojans have faced a multitude of good quarterbacks during the regular season, and Bishop-Heelan is no different when facing Noah Conley. The senior signal-caller is 71/137, for 1,238 yards, and nine touchdowns.
Coach Brummer says controlling the line of scrimmage and limiting the turnovers are the big keys that have been hammered on in practice.
We will have the broadcast on KS 95.7 FM, and live-streamed on westerniowatoday.com TV and YouTube. The pre-game show starts at 6:00 p.m., the kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.
