(Lewis, Iowa) The Iowa Pheasant and Quail hunting season officially opens this weekend in Iowa.
John Lorenzen, a Fisheries Biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, discussed the upcoming season during the weekly KSOM DNR report on Saturday morning. The Pheasant season begins tomorrow and will run until January 10, while the Quail season will end on January 31.
The daily bag limits for hunters are three pheasants and eight quail per person. Hunting hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and party hunting for upland birds is prohibited. For safety reasons, Lorenzen advises hunters to be aware of where others are located before taking shots. He also reminds hunters that at least one article of clothing must have at least 50 percent of its surface area in blaze orange.
