(Audubon, IA) — The Audubon Wheelers took down Heartland Christian in commanding fashion, shutting the Eagles out 3-0.
The first set began with Audubon taking eight of the first 10 points. after a side-out for the Eagles, a monster eight point rally led by server Riley Miller propelled the Wheelers to a comfortable lead in the set. Another dominating seven point rally allowed Audubon to take the first set 25-7.
In the second set, the Eagles kept it close for the first handful of serves. A side-out put Heartland Christian within three points at a score of 10-7. While the second set was more back-and-forth than the first, the Wheelers managed to keep the ball in their hands the majority of the time to take the second set 25-12. Head Coach Molly Lange says that she wanted to make adjustments to the teams serving after letting the Eagles gain traction:
In the third set, a nine point rally followed by a six and a four point rally kept the Wheelers in full control, taking the third set 25-7 and punching their ticket to the second round. Lange was proud of how her team controlled the match:
Audubon will host the Woodbine Tigers on Wednesday night in round two of regional playoffs.
