(Des Moines) Iowa motorists are seeing some relief at the pump this week as the average price of regular unleaded gasoline fell 8 cents from last week to $2.74 per gallon, according to AAA. Prices are now 25 cents lower than a year ago.
Nationally, the average gas price is $3.07, down 5 cents from last week. In Iowa, diesel prices also declined slightly, dropping 2 cents to an average of $3.44 per gallon. That’s 22 cents lower than the national diesel average of $3.66 and close to where prices stood a year ago at $3.41.
In the global energy market, crude oil prices also declined this week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) dropped $4.12 to $58.41 per barrel, while Brent crude fell $4.15 to $62.05 per barrel. One year ago, WTI sold for $71.22 and Brent for $73.68.
For heating fuels, natural gas prices fell 33 cents at the Henry Hub to $2.99 per million British thermal units (MMBtu). Propane averaged $1.52 per gallon statewide, while home heating oil prices averaged $3.00 per gallon across Iowa.
