(Iowa) — This is the final week of the regular season for high school football teams in 2A, 1A, A, and 8 Man. Here is a look at the playoff picture for each district:
Class 2A (Top Four Teams in District Make Playoffs)
Class 2A, District 1
Cherokee, Hull Western Christian and Unity Christian are all 3-1; Boyden Hull Rock Valley is 2-2; Central Lyon is 1-3; Sheldon is 0-4. There could be a three tie for the district title — if Cherokee beats Sheldon, Unity beats Central Lyon, and Hull Western beats BH/RV. Either way, Central Lyon and Sheldon cannot make the playoffs so the four teams are decided. This week’s games will decide where they will be seeded.
Class 2A, District 2
Kuemper Catholic plays Okoboji for the district title, the loser will be the 2 seed. OABCIG plays Southeast Valley — if the Falcons win they are the 3 seed, if Southeast wins they need Spirit Lake to lose to winless Estherville Lincoln Central to force a three way tie and the tiebreaker will determine the final two seeds.
Class 2A, District 3
Osage has won the district title. Crestwood and Waukon are both 3-1 and they play this week — the winner is #2 and the loser is #3. North Fayette Valley needs a win over winless New Hampton to secure the #4 seed.
Class 2A, District 4
Roland Story has clinched the district title and plays winless Oelwein this week. Dike New Hartford is 3-1 and they play 2-2 Hampton Dumont while 2-2 Vinton Shellsburg plays 1-3 Denver. If Dike NH wins, they clinch the 2 seed. If Hampton wins, they are the 2 seed and Dike NH is the three seed. If Denver and Dike NH both win, there would be a three way tie for third place and it would go to a tiebreaker with one team on on the outside looking in.
Class 2A, District 5
The playoff teams are set — Bellevue needs a win over West Branch this week to win the district title outright, a loss and there could be a three way tie. West Branch and Alburnett are both 3-1 — Alburnett plays 2-2 Anamosa. The games this week will determine the seeding. Monticello and Tipton are both 0-4 and play this week.
Class 2A, District 6
Mid Prairie has clinched the district title — they play one loss West Burlington Notre Dame this week. Wilton is 3-1 and West Liberty is 2-2 — they play this week and the winner will be the 2 seed. If West Liberty loses, they could fall into a tie with Mediapolis who beat the Comets 16-14. Mediapolis plays Central Lee which is 0-4 in the district.
Class 2A, District 7
Centerville will visit PCM this week — the winner is the district champ and the loser will be the #2 seed. South Tama is 2-2 and has clinched the #3 seed. Albia plays at Pella Christian and the winner will be the #4 seed — the loser is eliminated from playoff contention.
Class 2A, District 8
Van Meter, Woodward Granger and Clarinda are all 3-1 and Grand View Christian is 2-2. Chariton is 1-3 and Clarke is 0-4. Grand View can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Chariton. Van Meter plays Clarke. Clarinda will visit Woodward Granger — both teams are in the playoffs but if the Cardinals win, they get the district title because they beat the Bulldogs. If the Cardinals lose, they could fall to the #4 seed because they lost to Grand View.
Class 1A, Top Four Teams in District Make Playoffs
Class 1A, District 1
West Lyon is 4-0 and has clinched the district title — they play Lawton Bronson this week. Ridge View is 3-1; Hinton and Lawton Bronson 2-2; MVAOCOU 1-3; and Alta Aurelia 0-4. Ridge View needs a win over MVAOCOU to secure the #2 seed. That would leave Hinton and Lawton Bronson as the other two playoff teams. If MVAOCOU wins, they would need Lawton Bronson to lose to force a three way tie at 2-3 and it would go to a tiebreaker.
Class 1A, District 2
Manson NW Webster are district champs. Emmetsburg is 3-1; East Sac County and South Central Calhoun are both 2-2. Emmetsburg host East Sac County this week. Pocahontas Area is 1-3 and they host South Central Calhoun. If Emmetsburg and Pocahontas both win, there would be a three way tie for third. If South Central Calhoun wins, they are in the playoffs and East Sac County makes it regardless of their game.
Class 1A, District 3
Grundy Center has clinched the district title and plays 1-3 Eagle Grove this week. If Eagle Grove somehow would pull off a huge upset, they could be in the playoff picture. A Spartan win, however, and they are eliminated and the four playoff teams are set. South Hardin is 3-1 and plays 2-2 Central Springs. Clarion Goldfield Dows is 2-2 and plays 0-4 Garner Hayfield Ventura.
Class 1A, District 4
Five teams are fighting for four spots — only Sumner Fredericksburg is out of playoff contention at 0-4. Columbus and Hudson are 3-1; Aplington Parkersburg, Union and Jesup are 2-2. This week: Hudson at Jesup; A-P at Columbus and Union hosts Sumner.
Class 1A, District 5
Only Lisbon is eliminated from the playoffs at 0-4. Beckman Catholic has clinched the district title at 4-0 and they visit Lisbon this week. Camanche is at Cascade — both teams are 3-1 and the winner will be the #2 seed, the loser is the #3 seed. Northeast Goose Lake plays at MFL Mar Mac and the winner will be the #4 seed.
Class 1A, District 6
Regina Catholic has clinched the district title and plays 0-4 Louisa Muscatine this week. Sigourney Keota is 3-1 and plays at 1-3 Cardinal. The Cobras are #2 seed with a win. Eddyville visits Durant and both teams are 2-2 — the winner is the #3 seed and the loser is the #4 seed. Even if Cardinal or Louisa Muscatine wins, they are out of the playoff picture because of tiebreakers.
Class 1A, District 7
The four playoff teams are decided but the seeds are far from settled — Pleasantville, West Marshall and Interstate 35 are all 3-1; Ogden is 2-2; West Central Valley 1-3; and Panorama 0-4. The Panthers are out and Pleasantville plays at Panorama this week. West Marshall hosts West Central Valley and Pleasantville holds the heads up tiebreaker over West Marshall. Interstate 35 could make it a 3 way tie with a win over Ogden. The Bulldogs beat WCV so the Wildcats cannot make the playoffs.
Class 1A, District 8
Treynor is the district champ and Underwood has clinched the #2 seed. Tri Center and Shenandoah play this week — the winner is the #3 seed and the loser is #4. Both Red Oak and Missouri Valley are eliminated from playoff contention.
Class A, Top Four Teams in District Make Playoffs
Class A, District 1
MMCRU has clinched the district title. West Sioux is 4-1; Gehlen and Sibley Ocheyedan are 3-2 and Sioux Central is 2-3. Gehlen hosts West Sioux this week. If West Sioux wins, they are the #2 seed. If Gehlen win and Sibley wins, there is a three way tie at 4-2 — Sibley hosts Sioux Central. Sioux Central needs West Sioux to win and beat Sibley to force a tiebreaker for 3rd place for any chance.
Class A, District 2
The playoff teams are decided and the seeds are almost set — West Hancock has clinched the district title and Newman Catholic is the #2 seed. West Fork is #3 and Belmond Klemme is #4 for right now — the only way Belmond can be a #3 is if they upset West Hancock and West Fork loses to last place Lake Mills.
Class A, District 3
Saint Ansgar is the district champ and Nashua Plainfield is the #2 seed. North Butler is 3-2 but plays Saint Ansgar this week. Clayton Ridge is 2-3 but plays Nashua Plainfield this week. South Winneshiek and Starmont are both 2-3 and play each other in basically an elimination game. North Butler beat both South Winneshiek and Starmont so in a tie breaker between two teams, North Butler has the edge. If Clayton Ridge gets an upset, tiebreakers will come into play.
Class A, District 4
North Linn visits Wapsie Valley this week for the district title — the loser gets the #2 seed. Maquoketa Valley has the #3 seed wrapped up and East Marshall has clinched the #4 seed.
Class A, District 5
Two teams have pretty much stopping playing — New London and Highland. That leaves Pekin as the district champ, Danville is #2 and Wapello and Columbus have clinched playoff spots. Van Buren County has won by forfeit this week over New London but lost to both Wapello and Columbus.
Class A, District 6
Lynnville Sully has clinched the district title and Madrid has clinched the #2 seed. If North Mahaska wins this week over BGM and Lynnville Sully beats Earlham, then BGM, Earlham and North Mahaska would be in a three way tie for third place and it goes to the tiebreaker. If Earlham upsets Lynnville Sully, than the winner of North Mahaska at BGM gets the other playoff spot. Martensdale St. Mary’s and Colfax Mingo are on the outside looking in.
Class A, District 7
AC/GC and Riverside will meet for the district title this week — the loser is the #2 seed. Southwest Valley (2-3) is at Mount Ayr (3-2) and AHSTW (2-3) is at Central Decatur (0-5). If Mount Ayr wins, they are the 3 seed and Southwest Valley is eliminated. If Southwest Valley wins and AHSTW loses, the Timberwolves are the 4 seed. If Southwest Valley wins and AHSTW wins, there would be a 3 way tie for 3rd place and the tiebreaker would determine the playoff teams. Nodaway Valley and Central Decatur are both eliminated from playoff contention.
Class A, District 8
Woodbury Central will play at St. Albert this week for the district and the loser is the #2 seed. IKM Manning has clinched the #3 seed — the Wolves visit West Monona this week. Akron Westfield will play at Logan Magnolia and the winner will be the #4 seed, the loser is out of the playoffs. Wes Monona and Westwood cannot make the post-season.
Eight Man, Top Three Teams in Each District Make Playoffs; Two At Large Teams Get Final Berths

8 Man, District 3
Don Bosco has clinched the district title. Turkey Valley will clinch the #2 seed with a win over 2-2 Cedar Ridge this week and Janesville will be the #3 seed. If Cedar Ridge gets the win, there will be a three way tie for 2nd with Cedar Ridge, Janesville, and Turkey Valley.
8 Man, District 4
Edgewood Colesburg is the district champ and #1 seed. Easton Valley has sewed up the #2 seed. Springville and Central Elkader are both tied at 3-2 — Central Elkader is at Ed-Co and Springville visits 1-6 Central City so advantage Orioles for the #3 seed.
8 Man, District 5
The district title belongs to Iowa Valley. Belle Plaine is currently 3-1 and they visit Winfield Mt. Union who is 2-2 and tied with WACO who plays Iowa Valley. If Belle Plaine and Iowa Valley win, there would be a three way tied for third between Winfield Mt. Union, WACO and English Valleys at 2-3. If Winfield Mt. Union, they would tie with Belle Plaine for 2nd and win on the tiebreaker with Plainsmen the #3 seed.
8 Man, District 6
Gladbrook Reinbeck has clinched the district title. Collins Maxwell and Clarksville are both 4-1 and play each other this week. The winner is the #2 seed and the loser is the #3 seed.
8 Man, District 7
Southeast Warren is in first place at 5-0 with Wayne and Montezuma tied for 2nd at 4-1. All three teams have clinched playoff spots but the seeds are up in the air. SE Warren visits Wayne this week and Montezuma is at 3-4 Baxter. Southeast Warren has beaten Monte and Monte has beaten Wayne so if Wayne beats Southeast and Montezuma wins, its a three way tie.
8 Man, District 8
Bedford has won the district title and East Union has clinched the #2 seed. Lenox is 3-2 and visits winless Mormon Trail — a win for the Tigers and they clinch the #3 seed. A loss for Lenox and there could be a three way tie if Lamoni beats Bedford and Murray beats Seymour.
8 Man, District 9
Audubon is the district champ but after the Wheelers, there is a 4 way tie for 2nd place at 3-2 between CAM, Coon Rapids Bayard, Ar-We-Va and Exira EHK. This week’s games has Exira EHK at Audubon (Coverage on KSOM), Ar-We-Va at CAM and CRB at Glidden Ralston.
8 Man, District 10
Woodbine has clinched the district title and Fremont Mills has the #2 seed. Boyer Valley and East Mills are both 2-2 — the Bulldogs host Sidney while the Wolverines have to visit Fremont Mills this week. East Mills would need to beat the Knights and have Boyer Valley lose to Sidney to make the playoffs as the #3 seed.
