(Des Moines) Iowa motorists are seeing some relief at the pump as the average price of regular unleaded gasoline fell four cents from last week, now averaging $2.82 per gallon, according to AAA’s latest report. That’s 12 cents lower than a year ago, and well below the current national average of $3.12, which also dipped four cents this week.
Diesel prices in Iowa also saw a decline, falling four cents to an average of $3.46 per gallon. While that’s 11 cents higher than this time last year, it remains 22 cents cheaper than the national average of $3.68.
In global energy markets, crude oil prices showed mixed movement this week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell seven cents per barrel to $62.53, while Brent crude rose 54 cents to $66.20. A year ago, WTI traded at $85.89 and Brent at $78.19, marking a significant year-over-year decrease in crude costs.
Heating fuel prices also saw modest shifts. Natural gas fell five cents to $3.32 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) at the Henry Hub reporting site. Propane prices in Iowa averaged $1.52 per gallon, and home heating oil stood at $2.88 per gallon statewide.
