(Des Moines) State Treasurer Roby Smith announced his office and IAble, Iowa’s Achieving a Better Living Experience (ABLE) plan, will join the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy in recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Held annually in October, NDEAM works to bring attention to employing people with disabilities and highlighting the skills they provide to our nation’s workforce.
“My team and I are proud to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month by recognizing the contributions people with disabilities make on our workforce,” said Treasurer Smith. “It’s also a great time to highlight IAble so individuals know these accounts exist and how they can use this tool to help protect means-tested benefits if they have them.”
IAble currently serves more than 3,600 people who mix and match eight investment options, which includes a checking account option, to build an account that works best for their unique needs. To learn more about all the advantages of IAble, visit IAble.gov.
NDEAM dates to 1945, when it began as a weeklong recognition of people with physical disabilities. It later expanded to a monthlong observance and evolved to include all people with disabilities.
