(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors signed a proclamation designating the month of October 2025 as Substance Use Prevention Month.
The proclamation highlights the ongoing impact of substance misuse on individuals, families, and communities, and emphasizes the importance of prevention, education, and early intervention. It encourages open conversations, healthy choices, and connecting people to resources to support a substance-free lifestyle. The Board also honors those working to combat substance use. Citizens, schools, organizations, and businesses are encouraged to participate in building a safer, healthier, and substance-free community.

The Pottawattamie County Courthouse will be illuminated in red from October 23– 31, 2025, in observance of Red Ribbon Week, a nationwide campaign encouraging youth and families to commit to a drug-free lifestyle.
The Pottawattamie County Supervisors also proclaimed October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month (as noted in a story we aired on Wednesday) and Cybersecurity Awareness Month (we’ll have more on that story tomorrow).
