(Union Co.) One person was injured in a two-vehicle accident in Union County Wednesday morning.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at 7:54 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 34 and Highway 169.
Authorities say 54-year-old Robin Smith, of Leon, was driving a 1996 Chevy van southbound on Highway 169 and had stopped at the stop sign. A 2016 Peterbilt semi, driven by 60-year-old Robert Reidlinger of Clyde, Missouri, was traveling westbound on Highway 34.
According to the report, Smith looked east but failed to see the semi due to sun glare and proceeded into the intersection. Reidlinger saw the van enter the roadway and attempted to avoid a collision, but the van struck the trailer and dual wheels of the semi.
The semi came to a stop on the north shoulder of Highway 34, while the van spun out of control and came to rest near the stop sign.
Smith was transported by Medic 1 to Clarke County Hospital for treatment of injuries.
